With gasoline at $4 a gallon awhile ago, the number of DUIs went down, the apetite for BIG SUV dropped, reseach and development of alternatives soared. People truly thought before driving. Aren't these all good things? Why would a $2 a gallon tax here be bad? It would help foster all of the positives mentioned above AND it would help pay for this ginormous bailout plan?
Just sayin.
